Athletics
The aim of training athletics at HTS Louis Botha is allow learners to use their God-given talent to the best of their ability. We strive to allow learners to achieve provincial/national colours.
Athletics has and will always be the flagship of our school.
HTS LOUIS Botha is currently the 17 times winner of the clover shield in the Boys devision: once in 1997, then in 1999, and then every year from 2001 to 2015.
Some of the big names in Athletics came from HTS Louis Botha.
Most through the capable hands of dedicated coaches like Mr JC Hendriks (Principle), Mr L Theron, Mr C Wessels, Mr T Sempe , Mr J Beylefeld, Mr L Joseph and Mr CT Moahloli in their respective fields.
The name HTS Louis Botha is well known throughout the country for its achievements in Athletics.

Medals and varies achievements were obtained through the years. In our top achievers page many of our national and international sport stars are displayed.
The readiness for each season is determined by the hard work and dedication of the learners and the coaches. December training camps and clinics ensure that only the best athletes come from our school. Athletes arrive at school for training as early as the first week in January to ensure optimal fitness.
Chess
We play chess for the love of the game. It is quite evident in most our players that they love the game.
Goals:
The aim of Chess in HTS Louis Botha is to allow learners to enjoy themselves while training their brains. We strive to train learners capable of going the Free State or South African tournaments.
2004: Two teams were entered respectively in to the A and B league
2005: Two bronze medals at the Southern Free State Chess Championships
2006: Played in the D and E Leagues: Several Gold medals were obtained.
2007: The results continued in 2007 with prominent names like Gosego Moroka and Khotle Schaba.
2008 and 2009: Our school became known for their participation in chess tournaments.
2010: 9 Learners took part in a tournament to qualify for Free State Championships.
2014: 10 Chess players took part in the Qualifying tournaments during the following
weekends in Bloemfontein.

7 Chess players took part on 17 May in the Motheo Championships where the
following won prizes.

During the 01/02 Augustus Chess Open tournament Tiisetso Monatisa came
second in the B section with a rating above 1500 and won R600.
During the open tournament 8 – 9 August 2014 we have for U/19:
- 1st Oratile Mainane
- 2nd Tiisetso Monatisa
- 3rd Sejane Lenepa
Three teams participated in the Bloemfontein Secondary School League: U/17 A,
- U/19 A and U/19 B.
- THS Louis Botha obtained the following places for 2014.
- U/17 A – Second
- U/19 A – Second (½ mark short of winning Grey)
- U/19 B – Second
7 of our players have been selected to participate from 3 – 10 January 2015 on
the SAFCC Chess SA Championships.
Cricket
The aim of cricket at HTS Louis Botha is train learners to use their God-given talent, to enjoy themselves and to express themselves in good quality sportsmanship.
2014: CRICKET
The school had four teams that played in the Bloemfontein league this season. All the teams played good cricket.
I want to thank the following coaches for their hard work during the season: Messrs T. Jardine, A. Spies, L. Orren, G. Viljoen, W. Janse van Rensburg and W. Viljoen.
5 Players of the school were selected for various teams that took part in the National Cricket Tournaments during the December 2013 holiday.

The school’s U/19 A-Teams toured to Sasolburg during the October holidays. These matches were in preparation for the season. They won 5 of their 7 matches.
The school’s First Team played in the Pro-20 competition for Free State Schools.

Netball
The aim of the netball is to improve on the previous positions obtained in Greater Bloemfontein League in the past few years.
We had two provincial players in the Free State teams in 2014.
Both players and coaches are working hard at improving the standard of netball in our school and to get more players in to provincial and national teams.
Soccer
Soccer in HTS came a long way. Many great achievements can be connected to the HTS Louis Botha’ soccer teams. Dedicated coaches and learners ensure victory time and time again.
The aim of soccer in HTS Louis Botha is to be the best soccer school in South Africa. We strive to create great selfless individuals that are goal minded and able to go far in live.
2001:
U/17 – runner up in the league competition
U/15 – League winners
U/19 – Love life competition winners
Our school received a trophy for being the most promising school in 2001
2002:
At the Spur Tournament at Grey our teams did exceptionally well. The U/17’s were the eventual winners of the section – beating some of the strongest teams in the country, such as Benoni, Tsotseletso, Concordia and others.
2003:
2003 was not a great year for school soccer.
2004:
At the Spur Tournament at Grey our teams did exceptionally well. The U/17’s were the eventual winners of the section.
2006:
U/15 lost 2-0 to Grey in the League.
U/16 won the Bloemfontein league.
U/16 were knocked out in the Southern Free State Coca Cola League
2007:
The 2007 season of soccer can be described as a season of diverse success.
U/19 won the Classic Clashes match against Kaelang, 4 – 0
U/17 won the Plate final of the Grey College Engen Tournament
U/15 won all their league matches. They also won their Classic Clashes match against Kaelang.
2008:
U/18 won the Coca-Cola League beating Tsotseletso 3 -2
U/16 won the Vodacom Knockout beating Navalsig 2 -0
THS won the Regional Knockout.
THS Lost the in the final of the Provincial Knockout (Penalties)
U/16 won the Bloemfontein League
2009:
Winners of the following:
- Metropolitan Cup
- Coca-Cola Football Stars
U/16 was ranked 17th of the 200 participating school in the Nationals of the Vodacom Knockout.
2010:
U/18 and U/19 achieved the following:
- Fourth in the Mini World Cup provincial tournament
- First in the Super Sport My Schools Adventure provincial tournament:
- Fourth place in the national tournament (Representing Free State)
- Second in the Grey Soccer Festival;
- Unbeaten in the league of 2010
Junior teams achieved the following:
- First in the Metropolitan Provincial Tournament and seventh in the national Tournament
- Unbeaten in the League of 2010

U/14 and 15 teams reached the Provincial Finals in their respective competitions.
U/16 and 19 teams progressed to the National tournaments of their competitions.
U/19 came 2nd in the Kay Motsepe National competition.
2014:
Our soccer had a very good year this year. All our teams have played in their respective provincials competitions. Our u/14, u/16 and u/18 teams lost in their provincial finals but our u/15 and u/17 soccer teams has progressed to the national competitions where they will represent not only HTS Louis Botha but also Free State in the competitions. The U/15 came 4th in the national Coca Cola tournament. We also had 3 players that were picked for South Africa. Teboho Khasipe was picked for SA u/19 soccer team, Tebogo Qinsile was picked for SA u/17 soccer team and Mokheti Pali was picked for the u/16 South African team. We are all very proud of our soccer players.
